About Greg Hartford

Greg Hartford It is a pleasure to become acquainted. I was born and raised in the State of Maine where my creative interests began at an early age. Even then, nature left a lasting impression. I have vivid memories of walking on trails in the forest, exploring brooks and streams, and walking barefoot on the coastal shorelines at low tide. I loved drawing what I saw and would often stay up late at night learning the skills required to accurately present form, light and shadow.

In my mid-teens, I learned how to play guitar and created several working bands. In my twenties, I found myself traveling to different places to perform but missed the calm and clarity that working with images added to my life, and to others.

A friend let me try his 35 mm out one day. This followed with some darkroom work on the images. He was generous with his compliments and I became hooked. Not long after, I purchased a used 35 mm camera for myself. So began my journey with photography.

Traveling on my way to music gigs in various Maine and New England locations revealed new landscapes. I found myself often pulling over to the side of the road or turning down some unknown rural country road with a serendipity sense of discovery. This kept my love of visuals and the landscape alive. Many of the image captures from then remain favorites in my memory.

I moved to Florida for about 15 years where I learned the print and graphics trade, free-lanced in graphics and photography, and worked for some cruise lines including what was the Official Cruise Line of Disney World at the time and the tourism industry at large. I missed the New England landscape so returned to Maine where I have been for the last 20 years.

I began working for an ISP on the coast of Maine and got to know many businesses who were part of the tourism industry that surrounds Acadia National Park. I soon realized that the Internet needed a different approach for providing information for potential visitors. Out of this realization emerged my concept that came to be AcadiaMagic.com. My photography evolved as a result of providing content and inspiration for this website. It also provided worldwide exposure. Through the years, I have had many images published in a variety of newspapers, magazines, calendars, corporate reports, websites, books and even a movie. The industry certainly has changed over the last 20 years. I hope that you find some enjoyment in my photographs.
