Description
I sat waiting for about 4 hours for the clouds to clear enough for this image of Mt. Katahdin in Baxter State Park located in Northern Maine. I began my drive here at 4:00 AM on a cold winter's morning. I was not sure if I would make it here or not since one gets here via an old logging road known as The Golden Road. There is no phone or Internet service here. The nearest town is about 30 miles away in Millinocket. I am standing on Abol Bridge and had the only 2-wheel drive vehicle see anywhere. Few are foolish enough to try it. There are many snowmobiles and 4-wheel drive trucks and jeeps, however. The wait seems worth it. Once the clouds broke up, this was the beautiful result. In the foreground is the West Branch of the Penobscot River. This is a 16 x 9 ratio crop which seems to work well on this image. The lines created by the shape of the exposed water draws our eyes into the image. Enjoy.
